Graduate Certificate in Mental Health Policy and Practice
The Graduate Certificate in Mental Health Policy and Practice equips practising professionals with a thorough understanding of the theoretical underpinnings and policy framework for all aspects of mental health, including an understanding of the National Standards for Mental Health Service and the National Practice Standards for the Mental Health Workforce. Emphasis is also placed on multi-disciplinary and multi-agency working and issues relating to the mental health workforce, such as workplace stress and self-advocacy.

The combination of social work and social policy units of study provides the foundation for the School of Social Work's intellectual focus on equity, social justice and social empowerment in its teaching and research.
Staff maintain a broad range of community involvements, including sitting on local, state and national advisory boards, serving on community welfare organisations' boards, and providing advice to a range of welfare agencies.
Structure of the Program
The Graduate Certificate program is available as a part time program only, across two semesters. Therefore, this program is not available to international students.
Students take the following units of study:
- SCWK 6917 - Practice Development
- SCWK 6943 - Practice: Theory Development
- SCWK 6902 - Social Research
- National Practice Standards in Mental Health

Entry requirements
To apply for the Graduate Certificate in Mental Health Policy and Practice, you should possess a Bachelor of Social Work degree, or related degree in Humanities, Social Sciences or Health Sciences,
plus at least one year's full-time employment in a related field.
Furthering your studies
Students can complete 2 more units of study (total of 6) to progress to a Diploma of either Policy Studies or Social Work.
Students with a credit average can complete 2 more units of study (total of 8) to progress to a Masters degree in either Policy Studies or Social Work.

Local 2009 fees are AUD$1,620 per unit of study.
